IMPORTANT:  When installing Show-Tell & WOW! (demo or otherwise) on a computer with an existing installation of Microsoft Office 97, make sure you have installed the SR-1 and SR-2 Microsoft Office updates first!!  Doing so will resolve the "product id problem" before it occurs.  Show-Tell & WOW! is MS Access based, and it is important to install the Microsoft Office SR-1 and SR-2 updates before installing Show-Tell & WOW!  Installing Show-Tell & WOW! on a computer with Office 97 (without SR-1 and SR-2 installed) may overwrite the Microsoft Office product id and user name. OBTAINING SR1 AND SR2:  Contact Microsoft for at 1-800-360-7561 to obtain the "SR-2 Patch" CD (which contains both the SR-1 update and the SR-2 update and a utility to verify that SR1 has been installed - a good thing to do before trying to install SR-2).  Obtaining the Office SR1 & SR2 updates ...

1. Sound System working?   Before installing Show-Tell & WOW! software, make sure that the Windows sound recorder program is present and working (both play and record).  Use the Start, Programs, Accessories, Multimedia/Entertainment option to access the sound recorder program. Make sure that you can play and create sound files using the Windows sound recorder. Resolve any problem(s) with the sound recorder before proceeding with Show-Tell & WOW! Installation. See the following tips for trouble shooting your system if you have problems.

Sound system trouble shooting tips …

First … Make sure you have a sound/audio device in the Device Manager screen … Use Start, Settings, Control Panel, System and click on the Device Manager tab.  If you are installing a new sound/audio device, you may (at your own risk) want to remove obsolete sound/audio devices (in the device manager screen) to prompt Windows to reinstall a sound/audio device.  Removing a device, then restarting your system can be an easy way to reinstall a device as windows will detect any uninstalled devices when it starts.

Then … Make sure the sound recorder and volume control programs are installed … Use Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, click on Windows Setup tab, double click multimedia, make sure Sound Recorder and Volume Control are checked.  If not, check them, then click OK/Apply and windows will install the program(s) checked.   Unchecking and then clicking OK/Apply will uninstall programs and then checking and then clicking OK/Apply should reinstall programs fresh (in the case the programs are present but not working).

2. Volume Control present and working? Make sure the volume control (found on the Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment/Multimedia menu) is present and working before installing Show-Tell & WOW!.  Resolve any problem(s) with the volume control (sometimes referred to as a mixer device/control) before proceeding with Show-Tell & WOW! Installation.  If there is a problem, see the above trouble shooting tips.

3. Monitor resolution.  For Show-Tell & WOW! to work properly, the monitor resolution needs to be 800x600.  Use Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, click on Settings tab and use the screen area slider to set the resolution.  Also, the highest color setting usually works best.  If you cannot achieve a resolution of 800x600, Show-Tell & WOW! will not work on your system.

4. Printer Setup.  For Show-Tell & WOW! to work properly, a printer must exist in the Windows Printer screen (use Start, Settings, Printers to access the printer screen).

5. "Recording Control".  You are probably familiar with the windows "volume" control, though you may not be aware that there is a similar control (the "Recording Control") for adjusting the line-in and microphone volume levels.  To access the "Recording Control", click on the volume control, then options, properties and recording.   The "Recording Control" should appear, allowing you to adjust the volume level for the microphone.  If you have problems recording, or you can barely hear the recording, you should use the "Recording Control" to make sure that the record volume level is set at a proper level.

Kiosk Demo Content (image & sound files) …

Show-Tell & WOW! installs ready to use, empty of any multimedia (jpg or wav file) content (except for cover and help images and sound files).   Show-Tell & WOW! cycles between the cover image (cover.jpg) & sound file, help/invite image (help.jpg) and sound file, and a random play of a slideshow.  Until content is added to Show-Tell & WOW!, you will have an option to load a demo when you load Show-Tell & WOW! (via the Start, Programs, Show-Tell & WOW menu).  Later, you can delete the demo content using the Show-Tell & WOW! Settings, Advanced, Delete All Data option (which will delete all the content in the system) when you enter the password of "PICKLE".
